Great Jubilee Auction in Vejle

Jubilee auction No. 100 at Bruun Rasmussen in Vejle aroused considerable interest in advance. A Hadrosaur egg attracted particular attention.

 

Also, a great many bidders competed for a large bronze by Wilhelm Bissen depicting Diana, Goddess of the Hunt. The sculpture fetched EUR 40,000 against an estimate of EUR 13,000–20,000. Stephan Sinding’s marble sculpture depicting a young woman went for EUR 39,000 against an estimate of EUR 20,000–26,500.

Danish paintings also fetched high prices. A Golden Age painting by P.C. Skovgaard representing a view of Læsø was knocked down at EUR 20,000. Several Michael Ancher paintings were up for auction, among them an interior representing three fishermen in Brøndum’s Shop. Estimated at EUR 5,350–6,700 it fetched EUR 7,500.

A portrait of the fisherman Niels Møller estimated at EUR 2,650–4,000 went for EUR 4,550, and a marine painting by the same artist was sold for EUR 4,550 against an estimate of EUR 2,650–3,350.

A composition by Victor Vasarely, estimated at EUR 13,000–20,000, went for EUR 29,500. The highest bid on the Andy Warhol serigraphs was obtained by “Queen Beatrix”, which was sold for EUR 5,650. It was estimated at EUR 2,650. An erotic dry point etching by Pablo Picasso, estimated at EUR 2,650–4,000, cost its new owner EUR 5,900.

Among the modern furniture, a Kaare Klint dining room suite including 12 chairs was estimated at EUR 10,500–13,000 but went for EUR 18,000. Among the furniture from earlier periods, a rococo bureau made by the Danish cabinetmaker Mathias Ortmann, fetched EUR 53,500.

The total turnover of the three-day auction was EUR 1,5 million. Concurrently with the weekly online auctions, Pedersholm will from now on hold four annual sales of fine art. The first of these auctions is scheduled for 21–24 February 2005.
