Buy Kaabers Antikvariat

Is your dream one day to own an antiquarian bookshop? Right now, you have the chance of acquiring Kaabers Antikvariat – in the heart of Copenhagen.

Kaabers Antikvariat

For a total of 82 years, three generations of the Kaaber family have stood behind the counter of Kaabers Antikvariat in the centre of Copenhagen. This tradition has now come to an end as far as the family is concerned, but their wish is for dynamic new owner(s) to take over the business and continue a part of Danish cultural history.

For many years, Kaabers Antikvariat has been a key institution in the Copenhagen book milieu, its special focus having been on graphic art and children’s books. In addition, the bookshop was a meeting place for the Danish Resistance during the Second World War. The evocative antiquarian bookshop is located at Skindergade 34 – a stone’s throw from the University of Copenhagen on Vor Frue Plads square and only a five-minute walk from both the City Hall Square and Nørreport Station.

Books, illustrations and correspondence

Buying Kaabers Antikvariat offers you the opportunity of acquiring a literary and culture-historical oasis that comprises more than 52,000 registered book titles, illustrations, correspondence and graphic art with a total sales value of DKK 9 million, based on Kaaber’s own valuation of the collection.

About a third of the books are on the shelves of the bookshop premises at Skindergade 34. The rest of the books are in storage elsewhere. All works are catalogued in the bookshop’s database, BookCase, which accompanies the book collection. The database includes a total of 148,000 catalogue entries of books within all categories that have already been sold. The deal also includes various types of inventory. Furthermore, it is possible to take over the actual lease of both the shop and the storage areas.

Viewing and auction

Kaabers Antikvariat will be for sale on Bruun Rasmussen’s online auction, with a total value estimated at DKK 300,000–400,000. The auction itself will close on 22 August at 12 noon.

The Kaaber family’s wish, by offering the entire antiquarian bookshop at a single hammer price, is for the historical bookshop to live on under new ownership.

Should the lease not be taken over, the bookshop and storage areas must be cleared of books and inventory not later than two weeks after the auction. The buyer is not responsible for the removal of any other effects and has no obligations concerning the lease in general.
