Few Danish artist-craftsmen have managed to appear as much in Danish homes as Kay Bojesen (1886-1958). His famous wooden toys have been in high demand ever since they came into being, and today they rank among the most coveted articles from the golden age of Danish design.

However, Kay Bojesen began his artistic career in the world of silver as an apprentice at Georg Jensen in the early part of the 20th century. Here, he created arts and crafts that revolved around the Art Nouveau style and ornamental idiom of the age.

Not until 1919 did this established silversmith begin his toy production. 1919 was the year when Kay Bojesen became a farther, inducing a life-long fascination of the world of the child. He supplemented silver with a new material, wood, and little by little began to make toys for his own family. This production, however, soon evolved into something bigger, and having won a competition in the association ”Danish Work” for a wooden steamroller, a new era in Kay Bojesen's artistic career had begun.

According to one of Bojesen's general toy theories, they had to be as simple as possible in order to allow the child's imagination to unfold freely. Perhaps this is why most people remember the Bojesen figure of their childhood so clearly. One thing is certain, Kay Bojesen's cute, funny and ingenious wooden toys match the popularity of the furniture classics and will probably never fall out of fashion.

Just now, you have a chance to lose yourself in Bojesen's playful universe, so take a look at all the items and join the bidding here
