Mouton Rothschild 1945-2005

Numerous great artists have over the years contributed to Chateau Mouton Rothschild’s label series. Dali, Miró, Kandinsky, Chagall, Picasso and Warhol. The list is lengthy and the names speak for themselves.

You now enjoy a unique opportunity to complete or expand your collection with wines of rare vintage seldom seen at auction. As an added benefit you also have the opportunity to place your bids for a 1924 vintage in very good condition indeed!

The collection, which has been stored chilled in a wine cabinet, features both versions of the 1978 vintage and the original as well as the American version of the 1993 vintage. On the original label of this vintage the motif is a young nude female. The Americans elected to censure this image and the girl was removed from the label leaving it devoid of imagery.

Apart from the many unique labels, the collection also features one of the world’s highest-ranking wines, namely the 1945 Mouton Rothschild. Michael Broadbent gave the wine no less than six out of five stars! Many of the other vintages are in high demand due to their favourable potential of being drinkable: 1947, 1949, 1953, 1955, 1959, 1961, etc.

The 1946 vintage is as much in demand as the 1945 vintage, simply because it is rare and difficult to find for those wanting to complete their collection. This also applies to several of the 1950s vintages while the 1945 vintage has become almost impossible to find.

Of the more recent vines, the 1982 and 1986 vintages have long been in demand for investment. They both have many years ahead of them but are becoming increasingly rare as time goes by.

There are many reasons to dip into this collection: the beauty of its labels, the great wine experience it offers, or a collector’s interest in wine history. This is a château that in 1973 was elevated to 1er Cru according to the 1855 classification. A château that has its own art museum displaying all the works featured on the labels. A château of the legendary name: Mouton Rothschild!
