Maja Lisa Engelhardt
A case in point, Maja Lisa Engelhardt's compelling composition from 1989. It is easy to see that the composition takes its cue from nature, and there is no mistaking the usual interplay between calm and drama. Engelhardt ranks among the most prominent Danish visual artists, and with her poetic paintings and several solo shows in Denmark and abroad she has managed to make a name for herself. Engelhardt's works are normally sold at traditional auctions, but with this modern landscape painting Engelhardt makes her debut in the realm of online auctions.
Gunnar Møller
Or how about Gunnar Møller's oil painting "Primeval Slammer" from 1987? Here the forces of nature are set free, albeit in a somewhat different form. The following statement by the artist is completely consistent with the painting offered for sale here: Two elements, the sky and the ocean, form a contrast and yet also mirror each other. The landscape is the space we find ourselves in, the room in which we seek our own reflection. When I see the landscape, I also see a reflection of the soul. We have all the elements inside us, the storm and the quiet ocean …” Gunnar Møller perished under tragic circumstances while he was at the top of this career, but now you have a chance to become the owner of one of his soulful renditions of nature.
Martin Bigum
In an altogether different vein we find Martin Bigum's painting "Veil" from 1994 from the series ”Literary Body”. In the front we see 4 specimens of the small, characteristically hooded figure called ”Art”. For a long time the mysterious Art who is always accompanied by the scythe – that seems to be dangerously close to pass a severe sentence – was an important part of the artist's universe. Today, Bigum's cartoon-like works have attained an almost cultic status, and his distinctive approach to art has secured him a crucial position in modern Danish art.
Jean-Michel Atlan
The international aspect is represented by e.g. the Algerian-French painter, graphic artist and poet Jean-Michel Atlan and one of his curious abstract animals in the well-known blue, ochre and red colours and distinctive black contours. Although Aslan was never actually a member of the CoBrA group, he has very close ties to the group and was greatly inspired the other CoBrA artists – which is obvious in the pastel offered for sale here.
The auction also presents outstanding works by Asger Jorn, Knud Nielsen, Michael Kvium, Per Kirkeby and many others. Consignments for the auction are accepted until Wednesday, November 18th.
