A Russian 18th century silver box, lid embossed with fruits, flowers and foliage, sides engraved with foliage. Fedor Tichonov Krishev or Fedor Ilin, doubble eagle mark 27M for Moscow 1727, indistinct mark F? or E?, presumably for assayer Ernst Ruch (1723–1728). Weight 87 g. H. 4.5 cm. L. 9 cm.

Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Secretary of Legation in Vienna, Berlin, Moscow and Warzaw in the 1920s, later Counsellor of the Legation in Berlin, Paris, Turkey, Israel and Greece, and finally Consul General in Hamburg from 1954. Hoffmeyer's interest in collecting silver was pervasive and he acquired items in all the cities he lived. Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.

Condition

Normal patina due to age and use, including dents, scratches and marks.
