Literature: Lise Svanholm, “Laurits Tuxen, Europas sidste fyrstemaler” 1990, p. 28–31, where the scene is mentioned (in Danish): “At the end of his studies, Bonnat suggested to both Krøyer and Tuxen to paint a picture of a nude figure for the Salon in 1878. Krøyer chose the motif of “Daphnis and Cloë”, where Tuxen made initial attempts with “Samson and Dalila”, but then chose to submit “Susanne in the bath”, which has been a recognized as an artistic motif since the Renaissance”.
