A Russian silver salt cellar, gilt interior, front decorated with poppies and ears of corn in en-plein enamel. Ivan Petrovich Chlebnikov, marked with the Imperial Warrant as purveyor to the Imperial Russian Court, assayer Anatoli Apollonovich Artsibachev 1896, Moscow town mark, 84 standard. Weight 110 g. H. 4 cm. Diam. 7 cm.

Provenance: Seller's grandfather, Erhard Marinus Petersen (f. Aalborg 1887, d. Frederiksberg 1972), who worked for The Great Northern Telegraph Company in St. Petersburg before the Russian revolution. Here, in 1915, he also married Hedvig Elisabeth Petersen, née Kursawe. Afterwards, Erhard Marinus Petersen was Danish official and vice consul in St. Petersburg and Moscow until 1941. After a few other postings for the Danish Foreign Ministry they moved back to Denmark in 1951. Thence by descent to their grandson with residence in Denmark until today.

Attached on this site is a portrait of Erhard Marinus Petersen and his Russian marriage certificate, both in the family's private possession.

Condition

Minimal wear due to age and use, including few and small scratches in the exterior bottom.
