A Sino-Tibetan gilt bronze figure of Avalokiteshvara, he is standing with his right hand in the varada mudra, the left raised hand holds a lotus stem, he is dressed in a dhoti, wears a five petalled crown and is richly adorned with jewellery around his neck, ankles and arms. 16th-17th century. H. 26 cm.

Provenance: Civil engineer Carl Gimbel, 1881–1946, professor at the Imperial University of Beijing 1910–1912 with rank of Mandarin of 3rd degree. 1913–1928 District Manager of the Salt taxes.
