Store Kongensgade faience table-top tray, decorated in underglaze blue with a motif depicting two noblemen standing in a landscape and a shepherdess with sheep with ruins in the background. A border with foliage and stylized floral cartouches with lattice decoration framing the image. External surface decorated with a small straight-edged profile, where the bottom and sides meet. The reverse signed JP/5 2i. For Johan Pfau, painter's mark and 5 Rigsdaler. Tray H. 7 cm. L. 68.5 cm. W. 49.5 cm. Set on a contemporary Rococo table of dark lacquered oak and pine wood on cabriole legs with ends resembling hooves – apron with drawer. Table H. 79 cm. L. 68 cm. W. 50 cm.

Johan Pfau was Head of the Store Kongensgade faience factory 1726–1748.

Faience table trays were mainly used during the 1700s, where it became fashionable to drink coffee, tea and hot chocolate. The St. Kongensgade factory existed for 40 years and produced several beautiful table-top trays with different decorations. Literature: A. Øigaard: Fajancefabriken i Store Kongensgade. "They rarely crack during the firing and are slightly curved, slightly crooked, but for every table-top tray the cabinetmakers have produced a table, in a contemporary style of course, wherein the “tray” rests securely, supported in all the curved and crooked parts”.
