Viggo Jarl var C.F. Tietgens nevø, og den unge billedhugger fik til opgave af Odense by at udføre en statue af bysbarnet efter denne -sdød. I 1908 blev skulpturen opstillet i Kongens Have i Odense, men står i dag ved Tietgen Handelsgymnasium i Bolbro.
