Friedrich Bernhard Albers (, Riga 18. årh.)

A Latvian Rococo silver teacaddy, of baluster spiral-fluted form, the cover adorned with applied flower stalk and cast flower finial, raised on three cast leaf supports. The reverse pricked PETER FRIEDRICH KRÖGER A 1769. Maker Friedrich Bernhard Albers, Riga town mark, year letter E= 1768–1780. Weight 220 g. H. 15 cm.

Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Secretary of Legation in Vienna, Berlin, Moscow and Warzaw in the 1920s, later Counsellor of the Legation in Berlin, Paris, Turkey, Israel and Greece, and finally Consul General in Hamburg from 1954. Hoffmeyer's interest in collecting silver was pervasive and he acquired items in all the cities he lived. Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.

Condition

Wear due to age and use. One leaf support with broken/missing piece.
