Finn Juhl (b. Frederiksberg 1912, d. Ordrup 1989)

“FJ 45”. A Brazilian rosewood easy chair. Sides, back and loose seat cushion upholstered with yellow wool, black leather edgings. Designed 1945. This example made approx. 1960s by cabinetmaker Niels Vodder, stamped by maker.

The “FJ 45” chair may not be as iconic as the “Chieftain” chair, but it certainly is the most beloved Finn Juhl chair of all. Presented as early as 1945 it came to define, in many ways, how a mid-century armchair should be. The chair would become one of the biggest commercial successes for cabinetmaker Niels Vodder and was produced by him until the 1970s.
