An original b/w press photograph of the American civil rights campaigner Malcolm X (Malcolm Little; 1925–1965) prior to his press conference in Washington D.C. on March 26, 1964. Back with UPI agency stamp as well as stamped publication date (March 27, 1964). Visible size 25×20 cm. Frame size 31×26.
On June 19, 1964 the US Senate passed (73 yeas, 27 nays) the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which forbade all future discrimination based on race, sex and religion. The Malcolm X press conference on March 26 - from where the present photograph originates - should be perceived in this context. July 2 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the bill, thus making it - at least on paper - a new reality.
This is an original b/w press photograph from 1964, which shows two creased corners (lower part), 'fingers' as well as fine surface scratches. Furthermore normal signs of handling.
