Unknown photographer: An original American black-and-white press photograph of the US discus thrower William Kenneth “Ken” Carpenter (1913–1984) during the Berlin OL in 1936. Back with contemporary German news telegram, stamps from Foto Agenzia Keystole, Milan and Keystone Berlin as well as notes. Photo size 24×18 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.

“Ken” Carpenter was among the most gifted discus throwers in the 20th century. In 1935 and 1936 he won the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) championships and at the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 he took home the gold medal to the US. Between 1936–1940 he was American discus champion.

“Ken” Carpenter can be seen in the German director Leini Riefenstahl's movie about the Berlin games, “Olympia”.

This is an original black-and-white press photograph from 1936, which shows normal signs of age and handling.
