Burchard Precht, attributed (b. Bremen 1651, d. Stockholm 1738)

A Swedish Baroque giltwood wall console with white painted top, richly carved with ornaments and foliage. Stockholm, early 18th century. H. 79 cm. W. 94 cm. D. 68 cm.

The double C-scroll legs are a trademark of Burchard Precht's style. Precht produced high-quality furniture in Sweden in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century. Originally from Bremen, Precht arrived in Stockholm in 1674 to work at Drottningholm Palace and was named court carver in 1682. In 1687–88, he travelled to Rome and Paris with the court architect Nicodemus Tessin. The trip strongly influenced Precht's work and led to many commissions.
