Carl Locher (b. Flensburg 1851, d. Skagen 1915)

Provenance: King Christian X (1870–1947) and Queen Alexandrine of Denmark (1879–1952); then their son and daughter-in-law, Hereditary Prince Knud (1900–1976) and Hereditary Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark (1912–1995); thereafter their son, His Excellency Ingolf Count of Rosenborg (b. 1940) until today.
Carl Locher was chosen as the official painter to depict the Royal Journey of 1907 (“Kongerejsen 1907”) to the Faroe Islands and Iceland with the participation of, among others, King Frederik VIII of Denmark and his son, Crown Prince Christian (X) of Denmark. Depicted in the middle of the present painting is the white-painted steamship “S/S Birma” from the Danish East Asiatic Company. On the occasion of the voyage, “S/S Birma” was lent to the Danish Royal family as a royal ship.
