Olafur Eliasson (b. Copenhagen 1967)

“Light removal”, 2005. Mirror, metal, lamp, cable. Edition 15 of 20. Certificate of Authenticity dated 28.11.05 and instructions for installation is enclosed.

A circle composed of equal amounts of light and shadow is cast on a wall. To create this phenomenon, a spotlight shines on the right side of a semi-elliptical mirror, which is placed perpendicular to the wall. The light is thus reflected back to form the right half-circle, the other half-circle consisting of the shadow cast by the semi-ellipse (from the artist's website).
