Simon P. Henningsen (b. Gentofte 1920, d. Copenhagen 1974)

Ole Schwalbe (b. Brønshøj 1929, d. Copenhagen 1990)

“Kassablanka”/“Casablanca”. A square chromium-plated steel pendant, interior lacquered in black, purple, red, orange and yellow colours. Signed Schwalbe 112/200. Manufactured by Lyfa. H. 25.5. L. 18. W. 18 cm.

In the years 1963 to 1965 Simon Henningsen expanded his cooperation with Lyfa to go beyond lights created for Tivoli. He designed the cube shaped and labyrinthine “Casablanca”, which soon was put into production by Lyfa. The shining chrome of this lamp, its rectangular lines and the glimpses of red through the multiple openings into the interior layers - much like a hanging mobile - present, a dimmed, theatrical light source ideal for the intimacy of a small restaurant. A special edition of 200 “Casablancas” was produced, with brass or chrome exterior, and interior colours by Danish artist Ole Schwalbe, each lamp individually numbered and signed by the artist.
