A Tibetan bronze figure of a Buddhist lama, seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus throne, dressed in robes with richly decorated borders. Right hand in the vitarka mudra, left in the varada mudra. The throne with an extensive Tibetan inscription. Sealed bottom. 16th-17th century. Weight 2192 gr. H. 20 cm.

Provenance: According to information acquired in Kathmandu in the 1970s.

Translation of inscription: Knower of every scriptural tradition of Buddha's Teachings, You carry out the activity of the Buddha's Teachings. Made out of Sangye Senge's noble intentions, May the benefactors of Buddha's Teachings prosper!

By this goodness, may All-Knowing Sun Burn away the thickets of misunderstanding about the Buddha's Teachings, And may the lotus buds of intelligent minds blossom With the spreading sunlight of his shastra treatises.
