Original B/W silver gelatin press photograph of French naval officer and explorer Jacques Cousteau (1910–1997) on board the miniature submarine SP-350 Denise - also known as 'Diving Saucer' or 'Soucoupe plongeante' - in the harbour of New York in August 1959. Back with A.F.P. agency stamp, handwritten newspaper editing instructions as well as stamped newspaper publication date (September 17, 1959). Green painted wooden frame with double glazing. Visible size 20×25 cm. Frame size 28×33 cm.
Jacques-Yves Cousteau was a French naval officer, explorer, ecologist and scientist who devoted much of his life to the study of the world's oceans and marine life. In his homeland, Cousteau was known as 'le commandant Cousteau' - Captain Cousteau.
