Russian artists, 20th century
A collection of six Russian costume designs, one depicting Tsar Nicholas II of Russia with his wife and five children, one depicting the five children of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia, four depicting different theatre figures, among others a tsar and a tsaritsa. First-mentioned inscribed verso in Cyrillic A. A. Frolov and second-mentioned inscribed verso in Cyrillic A. Frolov, four unsigned. Watercolour and gouache on paper, hence two laid on paper. Two visible size c. 34×23 cm., four sheet size c. 45×35 cm. Two unframed. (6).
The two first-mentioned seems to be designs for a movie about Rasputin, see the notes verso.
Provenance: The Danish seller was living in St. Petersburg around 2000. He visited the Mariinskij Theatre and received these drawings as a present from the large theatre archive.
The paper has turned slightly brown with minor foxing. Two with few creases, tears and dents.
