Winsløw was intelligent and an easy learner. After the completion of his studies, he was hired as assistant surgeon at Søkvæsthuset, he gave lectures at the university, and had economic support in order to train himself further with the best doctors in Paris and London. No major scientific works of his are known, but his observations of vivisections of dogs and cats, of the respirational movements of the fetus intra votum, were the base of the dissertation of a collegue. Winsløw advocated vaccinations, and performed the first succesful cow-pox vaccinations with lymph. During the bombing and seige of Copenhagen he set up camp hospitals and performed as Head surgeon in one of these. In 1801 appointed court surgeon, in 1803 member of the College of Health. Member of the royal medical society. He was contaminated with dropsy and died in 1811. He left part of his fortune to the Frederiks hospital and to the Birth Foundation.

Afbildet
