Original b/w press photograph of Brazilian football player Pelé (Edson Arantes do Nascimento; 1940–2022) during the World Cup match against Czechoslovakia on June 3, 1970 in Guadalajara, Mexico. Behind Pelé, Czechoslovakian defender Alexander Horváth (1938–2022). Back with agency stamp and telex text with reference to the match. Green painted wooden frame with double glazing. Visible size 20×15 cm. Frame size 30×25 cm.

Pelé’s shimmering legend was forged in the heat of the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. His four goals, including one in the final against Italy on June 21 (Mexico City), helped push Brazil to victory. His greatest goal during the tournament, however - most commentators agree - was the first he scored in the match against Czechoslovakia on June 3 (Guadalajara). The present photograph was taken during that match. After the final Pelé was officially named ‘Player of the World Cup 1970’.

Condition

This is an original b/w silver gelatin press photograph from 1970, which has a small fold in the lower part (within the white edge). Furthermore normal signs of age and wear.
