Eckersberg made several paintings and drawings from Villa Borghese in the years 1813–1814. In his diary, dated 22 December 2013, he notes (in Danish): “the shortest day, lovely weather, drew in the Colosseum and in Villa Borghese in the afternoon”.
Provenance: The artist's estate auction, 1854 no. 294 (the drawing is inscribed E. A. 294).
