Inscribed on the reverse: “Bondedreng ved aabentstaaende Halvdør til en Fiskerhytte, seende ned over Karrebæksfjord over mod Gavnö. Malet Efteraaret eller først paa Vinteren i 1885 i Appenes ved Gavnö.” (A peasant boy by an open half door to a fishermans looking down by Karrebæksfjord towards Gavnø. Painted in the fall or the beginning of the winter of 1885 in Appenes near Gavnø).
