Olivia Holm-Møller (b. Homaa 1875, d. Rungsted 1970)

Two busts in the shape of Kirsten Mehlsen, born Andersen. Unsigned. Patinated bronze and plaster. 1930's. H. 44 and 45 cm. (2) Two boys looking at a boat. Signed Olivia Holm Møller. Wood cut on Japanese paper. Visible size 42×40 cm.

Literature: The two boys seen lying on the shore watching their little toy boat in the waves are Olivia Holm-Møller’s two nephews, Knud and Karl, whom she took care of in her hometown Homå along with her brother Severin after her brother’s sister-in-law died in childbirth in 1914 when she gave birth to Karl.

Provenance: According to information from the seller, who is related to the portrayed Kirsten Mehlsen (b. 1924), the two busts were likely commissioned by the couple Einar and Elisabeth Skov, who lived at Palsgaard near Juelsminde from 1908. Olivia Holm-Møller had a connection to the place through her artistic work. Holstebro Art Museum has letters in their collection that document this connection and Holm-Møller’s work there.
