Poul Kjærholm (b. Østervrå 1929, d. Hillerød 1980)
Purchased by Designmuseum Danmark in March 2020.
“PK 13”. A cantilever armchair of chromed steel. Seat and back upholstered with black leather. Designed 1974. This example manufactured 1970s by E. Kold Christensen, stamped by maker.
Provenance: The artist Søren Georg Jensen (1917–1982). Hence by descent in the family.
“PK 13” is probably Kjærholm's most radical design. The minimalistic appearance is the result of a unique interpretation of Mies van der Rohe's Brno-chair, in which any excess has been removed.
Literature: “Poul Kjærholm”, Arkitektens Forlag 1999, pp. 124–125 and 182. Literature: Michael Sheridan. “Poul Kjærholm Møbelarkitekt”, Louisiana 2006.
