A Neo Renaissance walnut cupboard with black inlays, richly carved with flowers and foliage, curved top carved with owner's initials, front with two doors flanked by columns, bottom with drawer. Circa 1875. H. 250. W. 144. D. 67 cm.

Provenance: Voergaard castle.

The cabinet was made for P.B. Scavenius. His initials are engraved on the top (PBS). P. B. Scavenius was born on Gjorslev estate in 1845 and bought Voergaard castle in 1872. In the years 1873–78, P.B. Scavenius had two major tasks: first to study and renovate the main building and secondly to increase Voergaard's forest land.

P. B. Scavenius died in 1914 and his nephew, Foreign Minister Erik Scavenius took over the castle to preserve it in the family's position.

Condition

Wear. Some worm holes, mainly at the columns. Key is enclosed.
