A pair of German decoration silvered metal helmets, in the form of an officer's parade model from The Prussian Guard du Corps, eagle top including a gilded crown. Model 1867. Apparently unmarked. Late-19th century. H. 17 cm. D. 16 cm.
Prince Albert of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksborg (1863–1948) was appointed in 1893 as a riding master and squadron commander in the Prussian Guard du Corps in Potsdam. It is obvious that the two helmet models belonged to him. Besides his guard du corps duties, he had relations with the Imperial German Court in Berlin. Prince Albert was thus the younger brother of Duke Friedrich Ferdinand of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, who was married to Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg. She was the sister of Princess Auguste Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg, who was married to Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany. Prince Albert became grandfather of the below mentioned sisters.
