Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov (1814–1841) wrote “A Hero of Our Time” in 1839 for publishing in 1840.

Provenance: The Danish owner's grandfather, Aage Casper Caspersen (1883–1960s), who worked as a telegraphist for the Great Northern Telegraph Company before and after the Russian revolution in 1917. Around 1918 he moved with his wife to Helsinki, where he continued to work as a telegraphist. According to the attached letter, written in Danish by Aage Casper Caspersen, he acquired the present drawing in Helsinki through art dealer Captain Suutarinen in May 1930. The Caspersen couple returned to Denmark at the end of the 1930s, and in 1943 they presented the drawing to their daughter and son-in-law, Jasse and Hans Hendriksen. Thence by descent until today.
