Toni Frisell (b. Manhattan, New York 1907, d. Long Island, New York 1988, American photographer)
'Senoras of Mexico. Frida Kahlo (Senora Diego Rivera) standing next to an agave plant.' Original b/w press photograph of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo (1907–1954). Shot for ‘Vogue’ from 1937; the present development 1954 or earlier. Mounted on cardboard plate. Back with glued newspaper notice from 1954 referring to Frida Kahlo's death that same year. Oak wood frame with double glazing. Visible size 20×17 cm. Frame size 30×27 cm.
From a modern perspective, it is interesting that Frida Kahlo in the attached newspaper notice is referred to as Diego Rivera's wife, rather than in her own right. Today, she is probably more famous than him.
This is an original b/w silver gelatin press photograph from 1954 or earlier, which has yellowed severely. Upper left corner creased. Additionally, normal handling signs. No further remarks.
