A Russian icon depicting St. John the Baptist holding a scroll from John 1:29–30 in his right hand. Tempera on wooden panel with finely executed silver rizza and halo embossed with scrolling foliage and repoussé flowers. Bottom of folded oklad edge with inscription “22 March 1775”, fineness information and amount of silver used. Apparently unmarked. Icon, 17th century. Oklad, 18th century. 30×25 cm.

Condition

The painting of the wood has a few retouches, see attached photo copy sheet (shown with pencil circles around the retouched areas). The rizza has a some holes/nail holes here and there, breaks at edges of rizza, upper corner of rizza with minor missing part. See images showing edge of the attachment of the halo.
