Three illustrated title-pages: Old Testament, Book of Prophets and New Testament. With 144 woodcut illustrations with contemporary handcolouring. A few repeated. Some illustrations signed “S.F.” (Sigmund Feyerabend). Wooden boards with 1700s pigskin binding, hinges damaged. With repairs and tape on pages throughout, particularly in old testament section. Contemporary or near contemporary marginalia. Few instances of minor loss to text. 25×36.

Provenance: Tschörtner family of Berbisdorf Castle (since 1660), by Hirschberg, Schlesien in Poland.

Sigmund Feyerabend (1528–1590) founded a print shop and publishing company in Frankfurt in 1562 in cooperation with Georg Rab und Weigand Han. Feyerabend worked together with the artist Jost Amman (1539–1591) on a large number of publications. Between 1563 and 1590 Amman contributed with around 2000 titlepages and woodcut illustrations to Feyerabends publications. Among these are the 144 woodcuts in the 1564 bible. Amman based some of his woodcuts on illustrations by Virgil Solis.

Hinges damaged and repaired with tape. With repairs and tape on pages throughout, particularly on first 50 pages. Contemporary or near contemporary marginalia. Few instances of minor loss to text. Repaired tear on page 2 of Book of Prophets, with small tear into illustration. Illustrations otherwise intact and complete.
