Hans Christian Andersen: Handwritten autograph poem. 8 stanzas. One page. [November 30, 1867]. Not signed. Given to Aron and Fanny Henriques on the occasion of their copper wedding. Enclosed a “spy-coin” (1 Skilling Rigsmønt) with folded and inlaid autograph greeting from Hans Christian Andersen: (Lille Ellen på Sjællands Øen skal elskes som elsker hun “Pigen ved Søen”.)
The copper wedding poem goes:
"Kobberbrylluppets lystige Alf bringer Skillinger - tolv og en Halv Det er den Sum, der fra Aarene faldt, Siden I to for hinanden blev alt, Flyv lige lang Tid fremad, - Hurra! Sølv bliver Kobberskillinger da. Fremad i Glæde - og underfuld - Sølv bliver Guld - bliver Hjerte Guld!"
In the diaries Andersen refers to his contribution: “Hos Melchiors skrev jeg et Vers for dem til een af Brødrene Henriques Kobberbryllup hvor der sendtes ham 12½ Kobberskilling, der var Børnenes Portrætter i de 6 og i de andre 6½ et Vers af mig.” (ENG: At Melchior’s I wrote a verse for one of the brothers Henriques’ Copper Wedding and sent him 12½ Copper Skilling, there were the Children's Portraits in 6 of the coins and in the other 6½ coins a verse written by me.)
