Charles Boner (b. 1815, d. 1870)

Autograph letter, signed. Saturday Morning 12 o'clock. No date, [July 10, 1847]. 2 1/2 pages. 8vo. Housed in full paper binding. (FP)

Andersen receives the letter during his first visit to London from one of his translators, Charles Boner. The letter deals with Andersen's great desire for an authograph from Walter Scott (his youth ideal). Charles Boner has contacted Scott's son-in-law, Lockhardt, and announces in the letter an invitation for Monday morning.

According to Andersen's diary, Andersen forgets the invitation, but is luckily picked up by Boner so he manages to come for lunch and to get his desired autograph.

Provenance: Flemming Erik Pedersen (1931–2020).
