Niki de Saint Phalle (b. Neuilly-sur-Seine 1930, d. 2002)

Wheel. Object. Unsigned. Executed during a happening in Galerie Köpcke, Copenhagen, 1961. Partly painted iron. Mounted on iron stand. Diam. 16 cm.

Part of trash relief created on a wall in Galerie Køpcke, Copenhagen, in 1961. At a happening on 15 September 1961, Niki de St. Phalle shot colour at the relief. After the event, the “wall” was exhibited for 14 days, after which an auction of parts and pieces from the relief was held on the final day of the exhibition (The Arthur Køpcke Archive, Aarhus Art Museum. Photographs of the relief reproduced in this archive).
