P. S. Krøyer (b. Stavanger 1851, d. Skagen 1909)
Portrait of fisherman Hans Kulman from Hornbæk. Signed and dated S. K. Febr. 91. and inscribed Hans Kulman Hornbæk. Watercolour on paper. Visible size 28×21 cm. (2).
Exhibited: Münchener Jahresausstellung von Kunstwerken aller Nationen im Kgl. Glaspalaste 1891, no. 2712 (label on the back of the framing).
The watercolour is inscribed by the artist beneath the passepartout (in Danish):
“To Mogensen. I kindly ask you to place this watercolour in one of the ordered frames (here Krøyer has made a small sketch in pencil of a corner of a frame) and send it to Stockholm’s Exhibition as soon as it is done – no time to waste! Yours truly, Krøyer.”
Original frame according to the little sketch mentioned above.
Envelope addressed by the artist himself is included:
