Ove Ramel Sehested studied in both Sorø and Kiel and became a law graduate in 1775. He became a White Knight in 1803 and Knight of the Order of the Elephant in 1826 (the elephant he wears in the present painting is an order Sehested received when he became head of the Chapter of the Order). For more than 50 years he worked in the College of Economics and Commerce, from 1813 as President hereof.

The canvas is relined. Crackles. Repairs and retouches. A cleaning is recommended.
