Ilias Lalaounis

A ruby, sapphire and diamond necklace set with numerous circular-cut rubies, sapphires and rose-cut diamonds, mounted in 18k gold. L. app. 37 cm. Weight app. 117 g. Greece, circa 1960.

Accompanied by original case. Inscription on the back E.B.W.H.

Provenance: A present from Bododakis-Athnasiadis to Eeva Haapala. Prodromos Bodosakis-Athanasiadis (1890–1979) was one of the most important figures in 20th century Greek industrial history. He created an immense industrial empire with weapons factories, mines and plants in diverse branches of industry. In that connection he met Paavo Haapala who was a Finnish chief mining geologist and married to Eva Barbara Wilhelmina Haapala, a licentiate in philosophy and researcher in plant physiology.
