A large Chinese gilt and lacquered bronze Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a double lotus throne in meditative pose, with downward gaze and hands resting in his lap, wearing dhoti and loose garments incised with flower border. Ming 1368–1644. Weight c. 16,000 g. H. 56 cm.

Provenance: Engineer Einer Bothmann Mengel 1878–1945 was in 1897 employed at the Great Northern Telegraph Company, Gothenburg department, and worked in China from 1901–1926.
