The Swedish naturalist and explorer Carl von Linné was the first to frame principles for defining natural genera and species of organisms and to create a uniform system for naming them. In the summer of 1745, Linné published “Flora Suecica” and “Fauna Suecica”. Flora Suecica was a strictly botanical book, while Fauna Suecica was a zoological one.
