A pair of Rococo solid elmwood commodes with curved sides and Norwegian Gjellebæk marble tops, each with three drawers adorned with bronze handles and key plates, the base richly carved with openwork foliage, C-scrolls and cabriole legs. Presumably from Denmark or North Germany. C. 1750. H. 83 cm. W. 70 cm. D. 43 cm. (2)
Provenance: Inherited through generations in the Holmblad family. Probably acquired by the Royal Agent Jacob Holmblad (1791–1837) manufacturer of varnish, glue, soap and playing cards in Copenhagen and married to Christiane Marie Holmblad neé Schack (1794–1880).
