Tsar Nicholas II of Russia's coronation in the Uspenski Cathedral in Moscow May 26 1896. Tsar Nicholas II and the kneeling Tsaritsa Alexandra Feodorovna have just been crowned, while the light of the sun surrounds the Dowager Empress, Tsaritsa Maria Feodorovna. Study. Signed and dated L. Tuxen 1898. Oil on cardboard. 21.5×27 cm. Gilt frame.
Study for no. 522a and 522b in Lise Svanholm, A Catalogue Raisonné of the Works of Laurits Tuxen, “Kejser Nicolai II's kroning i Uspenski Katedralen i Moskva” (Tsar Nicholas IIs coronation in the Uspenski Cathedral in Moscow); the first measuring 66×87.5 cm at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, the other measuring 180×178 cm at the Palace Museum in Pavlovsk.
