Martin Bigum (b. Copenhagen 1966)
"Self portrait (as H. C. Andersen's 'The Shadow'), 2000. Signed Martin Bigum, 10/15. Lithograph. Sheet size 76×57 cm.
The framing is donated by Rammefabrikken, Gl. Kongevej.
Martin Bigum is primarily a painter but has since the 1990s experimented with graphics, drawings, photography, installations, video art, music and poetry. Bigum has exhibited in Denmark and abroad, and his works are represented in Danish and international collections such as ARKEN, ARoS and SMK and in private collections in Sweden, Great Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, USA and Japan. Martin Bigum’s works are often full of reference, and he uses art history as an elusive image bank, ranging from medieval doomsday scenarios to popular comic cartoons. In addition to the comic-like character, you can find a relationship with J. F. Willumsen’s late paintings, the futurists’ fascination of movement and the fragmented image build-up of cubism.
No remarks.
Please notice that the work is part of the charity auction to benefit Børns Vilkår and the campaign “Small Children's Voices” in collaboration with “Curated by Jens-Peter Brask”.
