Jacob-Desmalter , attributed (b. Paris 1770, d. 1841)

An Empire mahogany bed with gilt and patinated bronze busts, vases and ornaments. The bed is attributed to cabinetmaker Jacob Desmalter and the bronzes attributed to Pierre Philippe Thomire after Percier and Fontaine. Early 19th century. H. 165 cm. L. 209 cm. W. 158 cm. Inner measurements L. 185 cm. W. 140 cm.

Provenance: The French Château de Pontchartrain, in the area of Versailles.

Similar bed in the bedroom of Napoléon Bonaparte at the Château de Malmaison and in the Imperial Palace in Bordeaux.
