William Anders: An original NASA colour offset photograph of Saturn V (S-IVB) in its third stage from which the spacecraft had just separated following translunar enjection. The Apollo 8 mission, December 21st-27th, 1968. Photo size 20×25 cm. Frame size 33×43 cm.

The S-IVB, which is seen in the present picture, was the third stage on the Saturn V and second stage on the Saturn IB launch vehicles. Built by the Douglas Aircraft Company in Huntington Beach, California, it had one J-2 rocket engine. For lunar missions it was fired twice: First for Earth orbit insertion after second stage cutoff, and then for translunar injection.

This is an original NASA colour offset photograph from 1969, which shows normal signs of handling.
