Ince & Mayhew (, attributed)

A George III giltwood mirror, carved frame features C-scrolls, foliate and floral motifs, surmounted by a male term in Chinoiserie taste. England, c. 1760–1780. H. 115 cm. W. 71 cm.

This mirror is attributed to Mayhew & Ince who supplied furnishings to many households. They were a partnership of furniture designers, upholsterers and cabinetmakers, founded and run by William Ince and John Mayhew in London, from 1759 to 1803.

Literature: A mirror of similar design features in Ince & Mayhew, Universal System of Household Furniture of 1762, although it is missing the Chinoiserie bust terminal.
