Gilbert Taylor: An original b/w press photograph of John Lennon (1940–1980) during one of the last shoots for “A Hard Day's Night” from 1964. Back with pencil note and date of publication (April 28th 1964). Photo size 23.5×17.5 cm. Frame size 43×33 cm.
This photograph was taken on April 23rd 1964 at Thornbury Playing Field in West London and it thereby originates from the second last shooting day of The Beatles-film “A Hard Day's Night” which was released in Britain on July 6th that same year. The film - most accurately described as a musical comedy - portrays 36 hours in the life of The Beatles members and came out at the peak of the Beatlemania. As desired by John Lennon “A Hard Day's Night” was made in scene order, something that for several reasons is unusual. All scenes were filmed on location.
This is an original b/w press photograh from 1964, which shows normal signs of handling. Left side of the photograph (the edge) slightly yellowed due to ageing.
