An original b/w press photograph of President Harry S. Truman (1884–1972) and Prime Minister Winston Churchill (1874–1965) during their first meeting at the Potsdam Conference in Berlin on July 17, 1945. Back with agency stamps from 'Gilloon Photo Agency', New York and 'Atlantic Press', Paris. Furthermore contemporary telegram shred with describing text. Visible size 24×18 cm. Frame size 42×32 cm.

At the Potsdam Conference, which took place in the Berlin suburb of the same name from July 17-August 2, 1945, 'The Big Three' - Harry S. Truman, Josef Stalin and Winston Churchill (in the end replaced by Clement Attlee) - met face to face. The result of the three men's mutual strength test became 'the bipartite world' that existed until the fall of The Berlin Wall on November 9, 1989.

Condition

This is an original b/w press photograph from 1945, which has fine surface scratches and a slightly discoloured back.
